Overview

Make the most of your day tour in Big Bend with the two of the top highlights of Big Bend Ranch State Park! Join us for a wonderful morning float through Dark Canyon, our most popular half-day river tour, followed by a fresh riverside lunch. After lunch we will hop in the van for a short interpretive car ride up the famous River Road to the Closed Canyon trailhead. The Closed Canyon trail takes us through an incredible slot canyon cutting through basalt and Ryolite down to the banks of the Rio Grande. The hike is a total of 1.5 miles, but since it is an out and back hike the length is catered to every group and even a short hike into the canyon is well worth the visit.

Itinerary

This full day tour meets at 8:00am at our office in Terlingua near the Terlingua Ghost Town. You can expect around 25 min drive to the put in from our location followed by 2.5hrs on the water, a 1hr lunch, and then about 3hrs for the hike and all driving to return to our office. You should expect to be back to our shop and your cars by about 4pm.

Participants can expect a fun and active day, beautiful scenery, a delicious riverside lunch, all necessary river and safety gear, and a professional local guide.

Please bring appropriate footwear for a river trip and for hiking.
